Year 2 Maths – comparing and measuring different volumes of water

Our children have been busy with water play, comparing different volumes of water and testing out the capacity of different containers.

The children were able to talk about how to recognise when a beaker is half full or half empty, estimating whether an amount is ‘nearly’ full or empty. We then explored the unit of measurement as ‘ml’ for small amounts of water and ‘l’ for larger amounts. Children then practiced reading a scale and challenged themselves and their partners to fill the beakers to a specific measurement.
