Our Values and Ethos

At Heronshaw School we aim to be a warm and caring community, where children feel comfortable and confident to be challenged in order to achieve endless possibilities. Together we aim to maintain the school’s vision of “Inspire, Grow, Achieve” providing an exciting and innovative curriculum rooted in outstanding Early Years principles and guided by the national curriculum, but meeting the needs of our children and our community. Our curriculum is underpinned by our own curriculum drivers; we aim to grow our little people into curious, independent, confident and successful learners, who believe that they can achieve anything.

INSPIRE – GROW – ACHIEVE

Our aim is to provide our children with an inspiring, creative and empowering curriculum that is aspirational for all and enables all our little people to develop knowledge, skills and vocabulary to think ‘BIG’ and progress onto the next chapter of their lives. Our curriculum content is designed, structured and sequenced in a way that ensures comprehensive cover of the Early Years Foundation Stage and National Curriculum. The curriculum we provide has been carefully mapped out to ensure that knowledge grows throughout their journey through Heronshaw school. This knowledge is revisited through our spiral curriculum approach to ensure that knowledge and skills are fully embedded. Through this our children will know more, remember more and achieve more.

Curriculum drivers
  • provide creative and experiential first-hand learning experiences, enrichment opportunities and challenges to engage learning
  • allow the children to develop interpersonal skills and build resilience.
  • develop their intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, leadership and independence
  • develop our children's cultural capital through our Heronshaw values; kindness, community, friendship, challenge, success, respect and honesty.
  • develop the whole child and provide opportunities for learning beyond those of the children’s everyday experiences.

Our school ethos is based around our school values and our children are rewarded and celebrated for ‘living our school values’ and developing into positive future citizens.
