Hot School Dinners

Here at Heronshaw the children have fresh hot meals that are be prepared on site. Parents and carers select the meals that they wish their child to have via the online ParentPay system.

*Please note that meals must be selected via the ParentPay system by Tuesday for the following week. Meals will not be prepared if the order has not been placed by the deadline and parents will need to supply a packed lunch.

Do parents need to pay for the school meals?
No, all children at Heronshaw are eligible for free meals as part of the government Universal Free School Meals strategy.

What are the options?
There are a variety of options including meat, vegetarian and/or packed-lunches. Alternatively, parents sometimes wish to prepare and send their children in with a packed lunch from home. We do ask that if you are sending a packed lunch that it contains healthy options, avoiding nuts, sweets, chocolate and fizzy drinks.

Who is the school dinner provider?
Chartwells is the school lunch provider. You can access lots of information on their website here. It also allows you to sign up for newsletters should you wish. The provider promotes healthy eating through a range of super food heroes that you can explore here.

When do the children eat lunch?
At lunch times there are three sittings, one for each year group - Foundation eat at 11:30, Year 1 at 12:00 and Year 2 at 12:20. Heronshaw employ mid-day supervisors to serve the lunches and to support any reluctant eaters. All children are encouraged to eat as much as they can during the time allocated.


ParentPay is used for selecting school meals.

Step 1: Please go to and activate your account as soon as possible. If you already have a ParentPay account, please log in using your existing username and password and add these codes under the 'Add a Child' section.

Step 2: To book your child's meals go to 'Make Bookings', and select your meals and 'Confirm bookings'.

I am not sure if I have activated my account?

I cannot find my activation code and password, what do I do?
Please contact Sophie Lake at Heronshaw if you are unable to find your letter with the details.
