Year 2 consists of 3 classes Gorillas, Giraffes and Zebras. The year 2 team is currently Mr Summers, Mrs Zastron and Miss Guntrip. Year 2 is supported by Mrs Bruce, Mrs Tyler and Miss Bloxham.
Children in year 2 learn through structured lessons where they have a main input, followed by independent work and follow-up challenges. There are three core subjects mathematics, English and science together with computing and the foundation subjects of geography, history, design technology, art, music and physical education. Phonics, 'book talk' and handwriting are part of daily life here at Heronshaw school too.
Children in Key Stage 2 are taught non-core subjects with a focus on clear progression of skills. Each subject areas aims to build on previously taught skills and subject content with a focus on deepening vocabulary. During these years of school life, children are encouraged to learn both practically and academically and all work is monitored to ensure that students are making the desired progress. We encourage children to take pride in their achievements and adopt an independent and self-reliant approach to school and particular attention is given to the social and emotional development of all children.
In the summer term, all year 2 children complete their SATs in reading, writing and maths. Due to coronavirus, SATs will not take place this year.
The tests take place in May 2020.
Teacher assessment is used to report children's attainment and progress to parents.
You will also receive a teacher assessment judgement for science, but there is no science test.
You will receive your child's results by the end of the summer term.
Between now and then, SATs style questions will be part of daily teaching.
