World Book Day 2019

Read all about how we celebrated World Book Day.

Over the course of the whole day on Friday 7th March, everyone at Heronshaw enjoyed lots of activities for World Book Day! The theme this year was ‘Share a story’ and each year group focused on a different book to enjoy and explore.

We began our day with a Stay and Read session in every class; welcoming in parents to share a story with their child/children. This was a lovely start to the day and was brilliant to see so many parents come together as part of our school community to support the children in their reading. Each class had a range of books available and it was a pleasure to start World Book Day by promoting a love of books, reading and sharing stories with different people.

From there, each year group engaged in a range of activities throughout the day such as creating characters, baking, making posters and writing letters, all of which were linked to a key text. Foundation loved The Gruffalo and particularly enjoyed decorating Gruffalo cupcakes which they ate as a treat in afternoon snack! Year 1 had great fun collaging giant crayons from the story The Day the Crayons Quit and writing letters to convince them to come back whilst Year 2 had a great cinema experience to watch The BFG and made their own dream jars.

We all came together at the end of the day in assembly to share what wonderful things everyone had been up to. A firm favourite in all classes was the baking and decorating! It was brilliant to see so many amazing costumes and share some photogaphs of what each year group had been doing during the day. Each class has created a display on their classroom doors to share their activities, so enjoy looking at the photographs and children’s work in the mornings! The effort from the whole Heronshaw community including parents, children and school staff was fantastic and really contributed to making World Book Day a success.
