Year 2 consists of 3 classes Gorillas, Giraffes and Zebras. The year 2 team are currently Mrs Bramwell, Mrs Zastron, Miss Joyce, Miss Guntrip, Mr Summers, Mrs Savage and Mrs Rozzier.
Children in year 2 learn through structured lessons where they have a main input, followed by independent work and follow-up challenges. There are three core subjects mathematics, literacy and science together with computing and the foundation subjects of geography, history, design technology, art, music and physical education. Phonics, 'Book talk' and handwriting are part of daily life here at Heronshaw school too.
Children in Key Stage 2 are taught through a 'topic approach'. During these years of school life, children are encouraged to learn both practically and academically and all work is monitored to ensure that students are making the desired progress. We encourage children to take pride in their achievements and adopt an independent and self-reliant approach to school and particular attention is given to the social and emotional development of all children.
The tests take place in May 2019. More information will come in due course.
Teacher assessment is used to report children's attainment and progress to parents.
You will also receive a teacher assessment judgement for science, but there is no science test.
You will receive your child's results by the end of the summer term.
Between now and then, SATs style questions will be part of daily teaching.
