Ideas for helping your child at home:
Look at and read together books with familiar settings eg; Rosie and Alfie stories by Shirley Hughes, Titch stories by Pat Hutchins.
Discuss the stories and ask questions about the text. See enclosed sheet.
Look at books about The Great Fire of London and encourage the children to discuss what they have found out.
Read some poems together and help your child learn one to recite in school.
Give the children money to count and then spend in the shop. Can they work out how much change they will get?
Look around the house, garden for 2D and 3D shapes.
Use a ruler to measure things around the house. Can the children find things that are longer, shorter, the same as given measurements?
Help children to control a ball eg throwing, catching and kicking. Ask them to increase or decrease the force with which they throw/kick the ball.
Ask children to make food diaries and discuss what they have eaten in a day.
Make posters/leaflets about to keep healthy.
Don't forget the importance of reading, if your child can't read then the above suggestions become difficult for your child to achieve. So please keep up the good work with hearing your child read on a daily basis.
Thank you.
